Movies make great dates. That much is true. But so do scenes from movies — as in, acting them out. So we thought we’d ask our friends at filmbalaya, the place for film news and reviews in San Francisco, to recommend some of their favorite dates inspired by San Francisco film scenes.

1. Dirty Harry

The date: How Hookup… take a long walk and retrace Dirty Harry’s ransom run? We can cheat and take Muni if we get tired. Here are the stops we make. The Marina Green, Forest Hill Station, Dolores Park, Aquatic Park, Mount Davidson.

Why it’s great: This is a fantastic scenic trip through San Francisco, and we end up with the beautiful view from Mt. Davidson.

2. The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill

The date: How Hookup… pack a picnic basket and some binoculars then take a walk to the top of Telegraph Hill where we could watch the feral green parrots featured in the famed documentary, The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill?

Why it’s great: Because parrots are pretty great. And once at the top of the hill, we could head to Coit Tower to check out the awe inspiring panoramic view of the city.

3. So I Married an Ax Murderer

The date:
How Hookup… walk around the Palace of Fine Arts then head to a poetry reading like Mike Meyers did in So I Married an Ax Murderer?

Why it’s great: Because that movie is just hysterical and Mike Myers is a pimp, and hopefully you won’t turn out to be an ax murderer.

4. Bullit

The date: How Hookup… head to the Seward Street Slides on Seward and Douglass? We can race through the curves like Steve McQueen did in Bullitt?

Why it’s great: Because slides are so fun. And imitating Steve McQueen is so sexy. Just make sure to bring cardboard and get there before dark! They lock up the slides once the sun goes down.

5. Homeward Bound…2

The date: How Hookup… walk my dog across the Golden Gate like the dogs from Homeward Bound 2?

Why it’s great: Great views and cute dogs is always the perfect date. Better check the weather first it can get cold up there. Of course, if the weather isn’t great, we can always just go rent the movie, which would also make for a pretty great date with great views.
