Unlike Princess Diana, Kate Middleton Won’t Have To Prove Virginity
by Chiara Atik on April 08, 2020Here’s some bizarre Royal Trivia for your Monday morning: When she married Prince Charles, Princess Diana had to prove her virginity.
This custom stems back to the days when entire kingdoms depended on bloodlines: a future king would have to make sure that any progeny of his wife’s was truly his. Which, ok, fine for 1381, but weird for 1981, right?
So, a young and shy Princess Di had to undergo what I can only imagine was an uncomfortable and humiliating examination by her future Mother-In-Law’s gynecologist.
Can you imagine a boyfriend (or worse, a boyfriend’s parents? Or, I guess, even worse, the world-press?) being so invested in your virginity?
It’s good to be the future Queen in 2020 rather than 1981, isn’t it, Kate? [EOnline]
