Newly Engaged Couple Resells 700 Roses From Marriage Proposalby Scott Alden on April 26, 2020
Okay. Here's the situation: You've arranged an elaborate, uber-romantic marriage proposal for your girlfriend involving 700 roses. She says "Yes." After a few hours of bliss as you bravely stare down your unknown future together, one of you finally says it: "What the hell are we going to do with all these roses?"
That was exactly the question facing a recently-betrothed couple in China who arrived at a very practical, if unromantic answer: Resell them! The couple sold the roses individually on their college campus for 1-2 yuan each, depending on the color. It works out to about 15-30 cents each. That's a darn good price for roses! And no one has to know that they were already used to win another's heart, right?
Yeah, the act struck me as totally unromantic too, but then I thought about it some more. Marriage is about partnership, right? Wasn't this couple, selling these roses together an expression of their commitment to that partnership? Any relationship is part romance and part looking at each other and figuring out "How are we gonna DO this?" Going out into the world and selling the flowers from your engagement together is the perfect blend of romance and practicality, which is a perfect expression of the idea of marriage.
Plus, it would probably be kind of fun, too. Each rose that you sell might feel like an announcement to the world that the two of you are in love and you're in it for the long haul. Doesn't that at least seem kind of romantic?
What do you guys think? Would you sell the 700 roses from your engagement stunt, let them rot or do something else totally cool and creative with them?
