Can Dating Make You More Successful At Work?by Scott Alden on June 29, 2020
How different is dating from networking, really? There are, of course, the obvious differences (hopefully you’re not making out with everyone you give your business card to, for example) but, when it comes down to it, many of the same skills apply.
According to Nicole Williams, Connections Director at LinkedIn and author of the book “Girl on Top: Your Guide to Turning Dating Rules into Career Success,” you can use the dating rules that are so familiar to many of us to get ahead at work. (Whether or not these rules should actually be applied to dating is still up for debate, however.) Recognize these?
Keep It Brief
Don’t Bash Your Ex
Have Others Sing Your Praises
Play Hard to Get
Keep the Fire Alive
Be Willing to Walk Away
Whether you subscribe to these rules or not, it does seem fairly obvious that going on more dates will get you practice in talking to strangers. Even a bad date helps you to overcome shyness and grease the conversational works for later, when it counts.
