Today isn’t just any day of the week, it’s Taco Tuesday! And it isn’t just any Taco Tuesday: October 4th, 2020 is National Taco Day. In other words, everything about today is practically begging you to skip out of work early and meet up with a date at a cozy little taqueria, or better yet, invite him or her over for a retro-style Taco Night for Two, just like your Mom used to make. Except, you know, romantic.

Taco Tuesday is sort of the patron holiday of people in Established Relationships: it celebrates everything that’s great about the little moments in life, about reaching the point in a relationship where it’s exciting to think about what you’re going to eat for dinner together. The point in a relationship when you’re content to find joy in the seemingly mundane. Together.

What You’ll Need:
Taco Shells
Some sort of meat product — chicken, beef, or pork
Grated cheese*
Shredded lettuce
Sour Cream

*Note: You can get as foodie on this as you want to get: Manchego? Cotija cheese, for authenticity? Pepper Pecorino, just to spice things up? The choice is yours. But if you’re doing a good ol’American Taco Night, we gotta recommend Kraft Cheese. Yep, the yellow and fake kind. Delicioso!

Taco Seasoning Recipe
1 tablespoon chili powder
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
1 teaspoon sea salt
1 teaspoon black pepper

Mix them all together. Cook with the meat. (Tacos are romantic because they’re easy.)

Mexican Corn On The Cob
4 ears corn, shucked
1/4 cup melted butter
1/2 cup grated cotija cheese*
4 wedges lime (optional)

Grill the corn, then coat it with butter, sprinkle it with cheese, and spray it with lime.

*Again, we swear this post isn’t sponsored by Kraft, but, Kraft Grated Parmesan works just as well as cotija in a pinch.

If this was summer, or, say, Cinco De Mayo and not National Taco Day, we’d obviously suggest, nay, demand, that you drink margaritas with your tacos.

But seeing as it’s Autumn, you might need something with a little heat. Behold, the Michelada:
1 Beer
Lemon juice
Dash of Worcester Sauce*
Dash of Tabasco Sauce*
Dash of Black Pepper

Mix together. Enjoy.
*Or any hot sauce, really

Your Evening’s Entertainment
Taco Tuesday is best enjoyed in front of the TV, where it’s dark and your significant other won’t be paying too much attention to the fact that you’ve spilled 3/4 of your taco down your shirt.

What to watch?

For the highbrow: Frida
For the lowbrow: The Three Amigos
For the nostalgic: The Wonder Years, now on Netflix Instant, a nostalgic show that honors all the American traditions of growing up in the USA (among which Taco Tuesday is certainly our favorite).

Not at a “Taco Tuesday” point in your relationship yet? You can still celebrate Taco Tuesday by proposing the Taco Truck date below. It could be the start of a beautiful relationship….
