Poll Results: Men Are (Slightly) More Concerned Than Women About Being Promiscuous

A few weeks ago, we asked you guys to share your "numbers" with us -- and boy did you. It turns out that most of us are at least a little like Anna Faris' character Ally Darling in the new movie "What's Your Number?" Ally is way concerned that she's going to have more than 20 sexual partners, and goes on a quest to find out what went wrong in her previous relationships. We doubt any of you would go to Ally's lengths, but that doesn't mean that you're not somewhat concerned with how many people you've slept with.

So here are the results -- how many people you've slept with, whether or not you have a threshold (and what that threshold is), and whether you think your "number" actually matters. (Results are based on an informal survey of 1,000 respondents.)

Just 11 percent of respondents said they didn't care what their personal number was, and 47 percent of you said you don't have a personal threshold -- a point at which you feel like you've had too many partners (phew!). But for those who are keeping score -- the average personal threshold for women was 20.3 partners and for men, 29.2.

Does it really matter, though? Well, both men and women are "somewhat concerned" that having more sexual partners will hurt their chances of finding love. Surprisingly, women were slightly less concerned (rating 2.1 on a scale of 1 to 5) than men (who rated a 2.4).

It's interesting to note, however, that although the men surveyed reported being more worried about their own promiscuity, their definition of "promiscuous" seems to be about 9 partners higher than women's.

What can we learn? Well, a lot of you -- almost half of you -- don't worry about your "number." But for those of you who do, you're moderately concerned that there's a correlation between finding love and the number of sexual partners you've had.
