How Hookup… get CRAZY good pasta at Il Violino on 68th & Amsterdam.
How Hookup… suntan on my roof & nosh OR go to the beach.
How Hookup… single origin dark chocolate tasting. (Anyone who doesn't like this idea is a space alien.)
An awesome place I've visited
a violent glorious thunderstorm in the Berkshires in August that strikes suddenly out of nowhere, rages briefly, then disappears, leaving blue sun-filled skies and a gentle moist breeze (I witnessed this when I was 10 and afterwards understood Beethoven.)
My perfect sunday
Wake up with sun shining on my face and breeze coming off the Mediterranean & blowing gently against my skin. Light breakfast & espresso then walk down to the sea, swim, read, and sunbathe. Prosciutto and melon for lunch on the beach. Later shower, dress up nice, and go play an awesome concert. Afterwards eat and talk with smart, creative, interesting people. NOTE: this entire scenario would be happily shared with the right person. ;-)
The movie I've watched the most times
My life history in 5 sentences or fewer
Born in Johannesburg, South Africa 13 days before the Soweto Uprising, but moved back to the States when I was two months old – don't remember a thing of the old country. Grew up near Boston, started playing cello at age five and fell in love with it. Music is the strongest shaping force in my life. Now I teach, perform, and do musical activism in New York City. Also really into meditation and fitness.
My first concert / My dream concert
ME playing Dvořák Concerto with the New York Phil!
Obscure knowledge I possess
Sadly, knowledge of complex music like classical is increasingly obscure in this modern world of ours. Also, since I started meditating a few years ago some of the esoteric sounding Buddhist stuff you read & hear often makes sense to me – though I'm usually hard put to explain it. (I think that's actually kind of the point.)
I have a weakness for Guys/Girls who
have PhD's and Doctorates.
For me, a first date no-no is
1) lateness 2) rudeness
A story you should remind me to tell you on our first date
one week in August of 1978, shortly after my 2nd birthday
I secretly want to be
I want to be with someone who wants to be
whole & ever-evolving (like me).
An infatuation of mine
If I won the lottery and quit my job, I would
I wouldn't quit my job if I won the lottery – I love my job! I'd probably buy a condo in Chelsea though, and also indulge in decadent fancy shit like the $1,000 Golden Opulence Sundae at Serendipity 3.
I want to come home to
warmth & closeness.
